Communications Specialist/Director of Communications, Nebraska Soybean Board

The NSB Communications Specialist/Director of Communications is responsible for conducting a variety of ag-related communications on behalf of the board. Your primary duties will include handling internal and external communications, media planning and public relations. Other duties will include managing our quarterly magazine and various marketing/communications projects. Some travel may be required.

Essential Functions:

-Develop and monitor annual media plan
-Strong writing and editing capabilities, including knowledge of AP style
-Manage quarterly magazine as well as contribute relevant content
-Coordinate and occasionally participate in media interviews
-Broad understanding of current marketing principles
-Experience with or willingness to learn effective media buying
-Strong organizational skills
-Ability to work on tight deadlines
-Ability to work with and manage communications contractors
-Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in the areas of advertising, ag business, marketing, communications, public relations or English. Four (4) years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Familiarity with production agriculture and/or ag business is preferred.

Skills:

High level of verbal and written communication skills required. Candidate must also show excellent customer service and strong problem solving skills. Self-motivated worker with the ability to work on multiple projects at once. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

The Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) is a nonprofit organization based in Lincoln, Nebraska. The soybean checkoff program was created as a part of the 1990 Farm Bill in order to maximize profit opportunities for soybean farmers. NSB staff is tasked with carrying out projects passed by the nine members of the board in the areas of communications, domestic marketing, education, international marketing and research.

The mission of the Nebraska Soybean Board is to engage the industry on behalf of Nebraska soybean farmers to maximize utilization of Nebraska soybeans in the feed, energy, industrial and food markets.
