Marketing & Communications Associate, Nebraska Forest Service

Three-year, grant-funded position supporting the Nebraska Forest Service’s (NFS) mission to protect the state’s tree and forest resources. This position will develop a wide range of media collateral about the spread of forest diseases and pests—such as the emerald ash borer, Asian longhorn beetle, and thousand cankers disease of walnut trees. This position is integral in maintaining clear and concise communications amongst other state agencies, Nebraska’s communities, the tree care/service industry, and the citizens of Nebraska. Responsible for completing deliverables and reporting metrics as specified by the grant. Travel (driving) within the state to provide support of deliverables as needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field plus one year of experience working in communication/outreach or media/public relations; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills; knowledge and skills in developing content (video, podcasts, infographics, press releases, etc.) through a variety of software and content management systems; ability to write, edit, and present information to varied audiences; and ability to oversee/manage social media presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental communications, public relations, journalism, or related field plus two years of experience working in communication/outreach or media/public relations. Experience coordinating story coverage with media outlets. Knowledge of natural resources and natural resource related issues. Exposure to and knowledge of forestry activities through demonstrated volunteerism or citizen science training. Knowledge of coordinating public outreach campaigns via traditional and non-traditional methods. Fluent in new media usage, trends, and best practices. Demonstrated ability in web design and audio/video production through tangible examples with accompanying analytics. Database management skills. Familiarity with content management systems (Drupal, mail chimp, etc.).
