Attend SXSW: Gaming with the CoJMC

Learn more about cutting-edge topics such as augmented reality, esports, game design and grown funding at SXSW: Gaming. The combination gaming conference, expo and festival will be held in Austin, Texas, on March 15-17. Professor Michael Hanus, an expert in gaming, will lead the trip with activities and discussions.

Hanus will lead an information session to answer any questions students may have about the trip on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. in Andersen Hall, room 108.

Hanus is an assistant professor in the CoJMC and currently teaches JOMC 391: Video Games & Society. He researches video game topics such as gamification, interactivity, moral choices, motivation, rewards, achievements, badges, leaderboards, virtual and augmented reality, and customization. He has been playing video games his entire life and would love to introduce students to a cutting-edge industry conference and festival like SXSW: Gaming.

To register for the trip, students must pay a non-refundable $40 deposit to Carly Morse in 147 Andersen Hall. Proceeds from the deposit will pay the SXSW: Gaming entrance fee. Payments can be made by cash or check payable to UNL.

Students are responsible for making their own travel and lodging arrangements and are responsible any other costs associated with the trip either prior to departure or in Austin.
