Reporting "Trip" - Norfolk Daily News (Norfolk, NE)

Need some real-world experience reporting experience? Join a quick trip to the Norfolk Daily News on March 29-30 to work on a special project focusing on stock car racing and the race track in Norfolk, which has a huge following in the area.

Even if you don’t know a thing about stock car racing, you’ll have fun learning. It’s a great chance to get your work published, with the college footing the bill for an overnight at a hotel and the paper buying your dinner Friday and Saturday lunch.

Folks at the paper will line up interviews for profiles and other feature stories. Last year, students wrote about drivers, mechanics, track officials and others for a special newspaper section to begin the racing season.

Assistant professor Jenn Sheppard will drive you to Norfolk in a university vehicle, come with you on your assignments and edit your stories. She started dirt bike racing when she was a kid and is now a professional off road racer, in addition, of course, to being one of our newest faculty members—who also can teach you how to write!

Let professor Sheppard know as soon as you can if you’re up for this. Her email is: jsheppard4@unl.edu
