South of Downtown Community Development Organization (CDO) is seeking a summer Marketing + Design Intern. This team member will be primarily responsible for creating graphics, flyers, and marketing materials for South of Downtown activities, including activities in the South of Downtown Art Hub. Some examples of events and activities include: creating flyers for neighborhood events, creating graphics for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, streamlining and maintaining consistency in South of Downtown’s branding in marketing materials, and sharing information gathered from Near South and Everett residents.
The South of Downtown Community Development Organization enriches the quality of life for residents of the Near South and Everett neighborhoods through collaboration, economic opportunities, and community development. South of Downtown CDO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. South of Downtown’s focus area is in census tracts 20.01 and 20.02 of Lincoln, Nebraska, from 9th to 17th Streets and L and A Streets.
Marketing + Design Intern Duties:
1. Design:
a. Posters/Flyers
b. Digital content for social media
c. Instagram posts and images
d. Quarter flyers for neighborhood promotion
2. Website:
a. Maintain website calendar with relevant neighborhood events
b. Update website regularly with photos of CDO activities
c. Create blog content spotlighting happenings in South of Downtown
3. Social media:
a. Update and create content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
b. Follow South of Downtown CDO’s marketing schedule for timely promotion of upcoming events
c. Create graphics to document and promote South of Downtown activities
4. Team environment:
a. Attend weekly staff meetings
b. Maintain a consistent work schedule at South of Downtown CDO
5. Community Outreach:
a. Help CDO staff draft and send emails to South of Downtown’s email list
b. Create engaging promotional materials to be distributed to residents and community groups
c. Manage and update South of Downtown CDO email and contacts list
Requirements:
1. Proficient in Adobe suites
2. Experience with marketing, art, graphic design, or a related field
3. Cultural sensitivity and open to understanding the cultural intricacies of Near South and Everett neighborhoods
4. Proactive work ethic and ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Desired qualifications:
1. Advertising and PR, Marketing, or Graphic Design student
2. Bilingual in Spanish, Karen, Arabic, or other relevant language highly preferred
3. Previous experience with Firespring email and website management a plus
Compensation: Intern will receive an hourly wage of $11/hr, with a target of 5 to 10 hours per week. This internship will run through Summer 2019, with the option of continuing into Fall 2019.
