Public Information Tech (PT, temp) - History Nebraska/Nebraska History Museum (Lincoln, NE)

In order to properly promote its programs and events, staff at History Nebraska and the Nebraska History Museum are in need of a Public Information Technician. The focus of this position will be on the creation of exhibit labels and graphics, but the technician will also create attractive posters and flyers for distribution; format digital imagery for museum kiosks and the website and produce regular announcements through various social media outlets. This position is 30 hours a week lasting through mid-August 2019.

Examples of Work:
- Designs a variety of labels for upcoming exhibits, working with exhibit, education and collections staff. Edited label text and images will be provided.
- Writes, researches, compiles, designs, composes, edits, and/or organizes data so that it will reach, attract the attention of and be understood by the target audiences. This includes flyers, posters and other print media; website, museum kiosks and social media.
- Create designs using computer software packages such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or Microsoft Publisher.
- Coordinates and works with other agency staff to maximize effectiveness of communication related to program activities.
- Facilitates access to information to educate people about Nebraska history and elicits feedback on History Nebraska's mission and programs.
- Provides appropriate online information to stimulate support of and participation in the preservation of Nebraska history resources and HN activities.
- Encourages active user participation on social media channels.

Qualifications / Requirements:
Experience in planning, writing, editing and producing informational materials/documents for publication, presentation or dissemination.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the various phases of journalism; grammar, usage and style; standard public relations and publicity fundamentals; photography; graphic arts and related software applications. Ability to: communicate effectively; prepare and present public information programs; type and operate camera; create informational and promotional programs; work with others.
