Communications Assistant (FT, temp) - Nebraska Forest Service (Lincoln, NE)

The Communications Assistant is a full-time, temporary position located in Forestry Hall on UNL East Campus. The responsibilities are related to publication design, website management, and digitizing agency materials. This position may assist in day-to-day needs like developing digital content, managing social media, and photography/videography needs. The successful applicant should expect to work no more than 40 hours per week and establish a set schedule of when s/he will be in the NFS office.

Schedule and Wage: Flexible hours Monday – Friday, $12.00/hour. This position is temporary, lasting no more than one calendar year from the start date.

Summary of Duties:
> Work to prioritize and establish timeline for the digitization of agency content.
> Utilize Drupal content management system to create, edit, and revise NFS pages.
> Assist with building electronic photo library, generating social media materials, and performing research.
> Provide photography and videography assistance at events; as well as post-production support.
> Develop print and digital publications related to NFS programs or outreach initiatives.
> Assist as needed on projects related to the organization’s communications strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:
> Demonstrated written and verbal proficiency, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
> Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office products.
> Working knowledge of Content Management Systems, HTML coding, and web accessibility standards.
> Completed or currently enrolled in courses related to marketing, journalism or environmental communications.
> Demonstrated ability to multitask on projects with competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
> Experience developing new media content (short-length web videos, podcasts, social media campaigns).
> Experience managing social media profiles.
> Previous work experience in the communications field (paid, internship and volunteer are acceptable).
> Working knowledge of AP style guidelines.
> Knowledge of natural resources issues pertaining to Nebraska.
