Disaster Training - Volunteer Reception Center, March 7 in Fremont

Dodge County Emergency Management is hosting FEMA's G-489 course "Management of Spontaneous Volunteers in Disasters" on Sat., March 7 in Fremont. The course will be held from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

This full one-day course has been developed for individuals who might manage spontaneous volunteers. The course will outline the benefits and challenges of using spontaneous volunteers during disaster relief efforts. Special emphasis will be placed on how to fully plan for and operate a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) to intake and coordinate volunteer placement and activity. Classroom training will be conducted during the morning session and a disaster simulation will be held during the afternoon session.

This training is relevant for Nebraska Extension faculty and staff, local and regional non-profits, churches and houses of worship, national service volunteers (AmeriCorps, VISTA, SeniorCorps, Foster Grandparents), and community members who have an interest in volunteering. Extension faculty and staff are encouraged to share course information with their partners.

The Fremont training will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Delaney Hall, 3400 E. 16th Street. There is no cost to attend the training, but registration is required to receive the free lunch. Register by Fri., Feb. 21 at:
