Action Team Update

Last week, Action Team Leaders and Signature Program Leaders for each of the Action Teams met to discuss their progress made toward their goals and plan for the future. The morning was spent discussing the “Challenge of Feeding Nine Billion People” and how Extension can contribute. There was excellent dialogue about how this cross disciplinary issue affects all of our work. You can learn more through the webinars being conducted by the North Central Agriculture Program Leaders being held this week.

The work of the Action Teams continues to be the mainstay of UNL Extension. Signature programs, implemented statewide, that have at least 10 hours of dosage, and that are evaluated the same way are vital to the process. If you haven’t had the chance to read the impact reports of the Action Teams, I would encourage you to do so. The difference your work is making on the lives of those whom you serve is commendable. Great job to all of you who contributed toward that work and to the Action Team leadership for making it happen!

USDA MARC Professional Development

Twenty-five Extension educators and specialists completed a professional development session on Factors Influencing the Value of Beef Cows. The program was hosted by USDA Meat Animal Research Center. John Pollak, Center Director, led a team of 7 MARC scientists and UNL Specialists who addressed a variety of genetic, nutrition, reproduction and related issues on cow and heifer management. The session provided an outstanding research update from this premier research facility and from our own Animal Science Department. Extension Administration is very appreciative of the efforts of Randy Saner, John Pollak, Matt Spangler and others who contributed to the planning of this event. This is an example of the type of educational experience important to our Extension Educators in their expanding growing role as teachers within UNL Extension.
