USDA Grants Available to Help People in 23 Nebraska Counties Repair Their Homes Damaged by Storms and Fire in 2022

Residents with homes in 23 Nebraska counties that received a presidentially-declared disaster designation in 2022 are eligible to apply for grants to repair their homes damaged by severe storms and fire. Grants are available up to $40,675. Funds will be available until expended.

Counties eligible for grants: Antelope, Boone, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Custer, Dixon, Frontier, Furnas, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Knox, Logan, Pierce, Polk, Red Willow, Sherman, Thurston, Valley, Wayne, Wheeler, and York Counties.

SBA Loan Deadline Approaching

April 27, 2023 is the deadline for Nebraska private nonprofit organizations to apply for U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) working capital loans due to damage from severe storms and straight-line winds that occurred May 12, 2022. The loans are “Economic Injury Disaster Loans” that may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, and other bills that cannot be paid because of disaster impacts. These low-interest federal disaster loans are available in Antelope, Boone, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Custer, Dixon, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Knox, Logan, Pierce, Polk, Sherman, Thurston, Valley, Wayne, Wheeler, and York counties.

Six Nebraska Counties Eligible for Assistance Due to Drought

Mike Gibson, Emergency Response Coordinator, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, shared that on March 17, 2023, 23 counties in Colorado were declared a primary natural disaster area due to drought. As an adjacent state, farmers in six contiguous counties in Nebraska are also eligible for financial assistance - Kimball, Cheyenne, Deuel, Perkins, Chase, and Dundy. Producers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the declaration to apply for emergency loans. They should contact their local FSA office for more information on eligibility and assistance.
