The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers joined forces to develop a Toolkit for Caregivers of Veterans focused on Disaster Preparedness. This resource is a comprehensive planning guide focused on increasing the confidence of caregivers as they prepare themselves and the veterans they care for to better respond to, and recovery from, a disaster. The toolkit provides fill-in-the-blank templates to build a customized preparedness plan and emergency kit checklists that include low/no-cost items to include in kits.

Although this toolkit is designed for caregivers working with veterans, the resource provides important information for all families. If you have a veteran in your family, they may also appreciate some of the focused considerations when planning for disasters. For example, in a disaster, loud noises and general uncertainty and stress could impact a veteran differently depending on their individual experiences.
