Statewide Photography Call | Hildegard Center for the Arts

Dear Community Leaders ~

An exciting statewide Photography Call sponsored by Hildegard Center for the Arts, in partnership with the Nebraska Tourism Commission and the Nebraska State Historical Society, is currently inviting communities from across Nebraska to serve as a bridge to link history, generations and cultures. The Photography Call is entitled, “Bridges: Sharing Our Past to Enrich the Future”, and runs June 2015 through January 4, 2016.

From Adams to Antelope, Scottsbluff to Sheridan, Dundy to Douglas……each of Nebraska’s 93 counties is home to historic and hidden treasures from the past. This Call is inviting photographers to submit original photos (taken by the entrant in the last five years, in Nebraska) that highlight historic places and often over-looked historic treasures found in YOUR communities; historical sites either identified on the National Register of Historic Places OR places of community/personal significance to the photographer. Digital photos can be submitted at http://www.hildegardcenter.org.

SELECTED photographs from the Call will be:
· exhibited statewide to help celebrate Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial in 2017
· used to promote the state as part of our partnership with the Nebraska State Historical Society and the Nebraska Tourism Commission
· will be showcased in a digital catalogue
· ALL submitted photos will become part of a virtual exhibit

***Lincoln native and world-renowned National Geographic photographer, Joel Sartore; University of Nebraska-Lincoln Professor Emeritus George Tuck; and well-known Nebraska photographers/writers Bobbi and Steve Olson, will serve as jurors for this statewide call! See attached Press Release.***

The enthusiasm for the “Bridges” Photography Call is building as we have received extensive publicity here in Lincoln. Included are links to A KFOR radio interview (Bridges Project) ; and a Lincoln Journal Star feature article. Our current focus is to get the word out to YOUR COMMUNITY ~ we have articles appearing in Nebraska Land Magazine and Nebraska Life Magazine soon! Can we count on you to please share the news of this unique Call to Photographers with your residents? I have attached an informational flyer (color and black/white) that will catch the attention of the public. Could you kindly print and post as many of these flyers as possible in high visibility areas for us? Also attached are Nebraska State Fine Art Standards that can be met by participating in this project. *Note ~ entrants must be at least 15 yrs. of age.

Thank you in advance for publicizing this wonderful opportunity to highlight historic treasures found in YOUR COMMUNITY! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Appreciatively,
Cathy Harrington
