
UNL Kimmel’s AppleJack Festivities Growing YOUR Seeds of Innovation
Whether you love AppleJack for the tasty festival food or you just love to experience something new and different, University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s Kimmel Education & Research Center should be marked as a destination for your 2011 Apple Jack experience. Supporting Nebraska’s economy is this year’s theme.
The excitement will begin right next to Kimmel Orchard on Saturday, Sept. 17. Explore what makes Nebraska so great while enjoying demonstrations on a variety of topics throughout the day. Demonstrations include sampling of delicious new beef cuts, a book signing, bird watch walk, the beauty of fused glass, along with the science of making “gummy” worms.
Join us for our first Iron Chef competition hosted by UNL’s Food Science and Technology Club. This one-time-only event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11:30 a.m. Selected audience members will form teams of 2-3 and will battle it out to construct the tastiest and most creative dish from the pantry items provided and our "mystery ingredient."
The UNL Kimmel Education and Research Center’s labs will feature two UNL Extension Robotics program. Learn how robotics can ignite your child’s enthusiasm for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Also, learn how the partnership between UNL Extension and First Lego League will be improving the quality of food by engaging youth to explore ways to prevent food contamination.
Also sharing their seeds of innovation of the Cornhusker State are some uniquely Nebraska businesses selling appetizing treats and creative products. Events and demonstrations will continue at UNL’s Kimmel Education & Research Center through Sunday, Sept. 18.
