Professor Schmidt helped facilitate the inaugural National Advocacy Training Program held at the Federal Courthouse in Philadelphia, PA. For this trial advocacy course, the American Inns of Court brought seven English judge and barristers to Philadelphia to train American lawyers from across the country in the art of advocacy. The two-day course covered case analysis, opening statements, direct and cross examination, and closing arguments. Every participant conducted each aspect of an oral trial and received feedback and critique from the English trainers. Professor Schmidt is on the Board of Trustees for the American Inns of Court and was on the Planning Committee for the training.
