Westlaw has announced it’s intention to discontinue offline printing at the end of this year. This means that printing will cost real money next year, and, after you graduate! It’s time to begin thinking about reducing the amount of printing you do for all purposes, including email, papers, outlines, as well as printing research results. There are two reasons for the change: they’re saving themselves money and they’re encouraging you to move your reading habits to a digital platform. A reminder, this year you have 250 pages of “free” printing (it costs the law library) per semester, per year. If you are a research assistant, please carefully keep track of the printing that you do for your professor. That amount will not be deducted from your personal printing account. We will need some form of documentation for this work, as it will ultimately be charged to your professor.

Bloomberg Law for 2 & 3L’s
A powerful new player in the online legal research world is Bloomberg Law, a service that’s related to Bloomberg Financial and Bloomberg News services, and, yes to the mayor of New York. At the moment, the main distinction between Bloomberg, or BLAW, is that they encourage you to use your academic password at work while clerking and give you access for six months after graduation. The service also features access to many court documents and the research files of many of the top 100 US law firms.
To get access to BLAW, please a librarian about getting a password. A word of caution, you will need an email address that ends with “unl.edu” in order to register.
