Winnebago Externship

Archived Story: This article is part of our newsletter archives. It has been preserved for reference, but the information may no longer be current.

This is a newly created spring externship opportunity.

Depending on the student’s interest, the work could focus either on legislative drafting (helping developing tribal law and policy on a range of matters) or employment matters (all employer side on behalf of the tribe). For the employment work, it would likely be mostly per-dispute work (manuals, contracts, compliance, etc.) but there may be some tribal court litigation potential involved.

The externship would be 1-3 credits, working largely from Lincoln but communicating with the Tribe’s general counsel regularly. Any particular Indian law interest or expertise is not necessarily required for this experience, though of course it would not hurt.

Interested students should submit a resume and transcript to Professor Jessica Shoemaker. A cover letter is optional. You can submit through ROSCOE.
