Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope that you had a great holiday and you are ready to go for another busy semester.

As you return to school you will see a few new faces around the building. Chris Evans has been promoted to Manager of Information Technology, and we have brought on board Richard McDermott to work with Chris as an IT specialist. Chris and Richard are your go-to people for all things IT and computers. Another new addition to the College is Katie Pfannenstiel. Katie is our student and alumni events coordinator and is located in the dean’s office.

There are many great programs and visitors coming to the College this semester. To give you a sampling, on February 5th, the Nebraska Supreme Court will hold arguments in the auditorium; on February 19th we will host a program about cultural competence by a group in Omaha called Inclusive Communities; and sometime in early March, the Chiara String Quartet will give a free lunchtime concert in the auditorium. The Chiara is the resident quartet at the Glenn Korff School of Music at UNL. Later in March we will host Judge David Ebel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit as our jurist-in-residence for a couple of days. These are just a few of the exciting events happening at the College this semester. Also, please mark your calendars for the annual Meeting of the Minds on February 13th and the Women’s Law Caucus Auction on March 13th. Commencement will be held on May 9th and the speaker, chosen by the 3L class, will be Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

To help keep you current on all that is happening, we have added SnapChat to our social media suite, which already includes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Send us a snap (UNLCollegeofLaw) and we will snap you about goings-on at the College.

Finally, the mom in me just has to remind everyone that the flu is apparently very widespread and bad this year. Please remember to wash your hands, use the hand sanitizer that we have conveniently located around the law school, and stay home if you are sick! Thank you.

I wish you all the best as we start another semester. In addition to the terrific programs coming up, there will continue to be excellent and broad-based career services programming, and lots of opportunity to participate in student competitions and events. We continue to try to find ways to enhance the student experience, academic and otherwise, at the Law College and I am always interested in your thoughts and ideas. Have a wonderful semester!

Susan
