Rural Practice Opportutnies

There are some upcoming events that you should be aware of.

First, the NSBA is again working this year to connect students interested in summer rural clerkships with attorneys looking to hire as part of the Rural Practice Initiative Summer Clerkship Program In addition to playing a matchmaker role, the bar this year has funding through an ABA grant to assist students with housing as well as additional funding to help attorneys defray the cost of a law clerk. The form for being considered is attached. If you know an attorney in greater Nebraska you would like to work with, I would encourage yo not to wait to reach out to them. Applications to the NSBA are due on February 3rd. (see attached application)

Second, On Friday, February 20, the NSBA is planning a Rural Practice Initiative Clerkship Conference (Interviews and Networking) in Kearney, Nebraska They are still seeking attorney participation from each of the judicial districts around the state but the conference call I participated in earlier this week made it sound like they anticipate participation to be strong. The goal is to bring together students who are seeking both post-graduate attorney pistons and those seeking summer clerkships with the attorneys looking to make those hires. We anticipate that there will be interviews starting at 12:00 noon followed by a networking reception in the late afternoon. If you are interested in attending this event, please rsvp in the events section of ROSCOE and also let Sam Cinch at the bar association know. His contact information is in the event description. I will be attending the event in Kearney and have a van that seats eight. I am happy to transport as many students as are interested. I plan to drive to Kearney in the morning in time for noon interviews and return that night after the conclusion of the networking reception.

Finally, The NSBA collects and places resumes of those students interested in rural practice student resume section of their website. Periodically, we must refresh their resume books. To be included in the NSBA Rural Practice Resume Book, simply upload your resume to the job posting in ROSCOE. I will submit the new resumes to the NSBA office for inclusion on their password protected website on Wednesday, February 4th.
