From the Dean

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope that you had a great holiday and you are ready to go for another busy semester.

I am now in my last few weeks as dean of the College of Law, and the end of a 20-year association with the College. I will take with me so many wonderful experiences and memories of the outstanding students, faculty, and staff with whom I have come into contact over the years. I came here after growing up in a big city (New York) and I am now going to another big city (Chicago). In between, at this law school, I have learned about the Midwestern way of life, which is characterized by a genuine concern about others, by a serious work ethic, and by a true sense of community. I will miss all of this.

I wish you all the best as you continue your studies, particularly the 3L class as you transition from student to lawyer and begin your careers. I leave you in the very able hands of Professor Richard Moberly who will serve as the interim dean for the next year and a half. He and I have been working very hard for the past 6 weeks to ensure a smooth transition and I am confident there will be no major bumps in the road, and if there are, he will rightly blame them on me!

One alumnus recently wrote the following to me in an email message:

This is not just a place but also a state of mind and relationships, where everyone knows everyone else and cares deeply for their success and happiness. You will be taking that with you, wherever you go. You may leave Nebraska, but Nebraska never leaves you.
Indeed, how true it is.

All my best,

Susan
