Welcome to Nebraska Law! I look forward to welcoming you in person in August. Until then, though, we wanted to send you some information about the school to help with your transition. This first edition of the Sounding block includes information about the courses you will take during your 1L year. These courses will form the foundation of the rest of your academic experience and also introduce you to the thinking, reasoning, and analysis skills that are the core of your new profession.

There are many people on campus who eagerly await your arrival. The professors who teach our 1L courses are dedicated teachers and the highlight of their teaching comes from introducing new students to the rigors of a law school education. Our Career Development Office team is working on a robust program of speakers and workshops to help you explore the many ways one might use a law degree and to help you successfully find summer jobs and a permanent job after you graduate. Our Student Services team will help you engage with the law school community outside of the class, from figuring out student groups that will enhance your experience to finding externships that put your legal education to practical use in a work setting.

In the meantime, the Admissions team will continue to work with you to help with your transition. Tracy, Melissa, and Beki are available to answer any questions you may have, including issues regarding financial aid, housing, and orientation. Over the coming months we will send you even more information to make sure you are prepared.

Again, welcome. I can’t wait to meet you!

Kind regards,
Richard
