Students in Class

You have now learned all about FLS and International Perspectives, but those are not the only classes you will be taking. Your 1L class lineup will look like this:

Fall Semester (18 credit hours)
Contracts – 3 hours
Civil Procedure – 3 hours
Property – 3 hours
Torts – 4 hours
Criminal Law – 3 hours
FLS – 2 hours

Spring Semester (15 credit hours)
Contracts – 3 hours
Civil Procedure – 3 hours
Property – 3 hours
FLS – 4 hours
International Perspectives – 2 hours

First year students are in class five days a week. The earliest class time is typically 9:00 a.m. with classes generally ending by 3:30 p.m. You will not be in class continuously from 9:00 to 3:30, however. Breaks are built in to the first year schedule to give you time to review after your last class, prepare for your next class or attend meetings or speakers.
You will have more flexibility in picking your courses, class times and professors for your 2L and 3L years. After successful completion of all the 1L courses, the only remaining required courses for graduation are Constitutional Law I and Legal Profession (professional responsibility/ethics). Students are also required to take 6 credit hours of professional skills coursework (anything from Trial Advocacy to Mediation to participation in one of our Clinics) and a seminar (a topic specific intensive research and writing course). The remainder of your 2L and 3L coursework is up to you! See the Full Course Listing portion of our website (http://law.unl.edu/full-course-listing/) to see all the options you will have to choose from.
