New Children's Justice Clinic at Nebraska Law; Application Period Now Open for 2017-18

TO ALL 2L STUDENTS:

The faculty has approved a new clinic, the Children’s Justice Clinic (CJC), which will be offered for the first time beginning this fall. Here is a summary of the CJC:

Students in the CJC will be trained to be Guardians ad Litem representing young children who are removed from homes as a result of alleged abuse and neglect. Students will be certified as GALs after successful completion of the course, which means they will be able to accept court appointments immediately after being sworn in as an attorney in Nebraska. Students will receive training in such areas as federal and state child welfare laws, trauma and child development, complex family dynamics, and multidisciplinary consultation. They will represent children in a minimum of two cases throughout the course.

A summary of the Clinic is also attached to this email. The CJC will be taught by Adjunct Professor Michelle Paxton.

If you are interested in participating in the new Children’s Justice Clinic, you must complete an online application using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/MnrEYjq6t8bfnA9U2

All 2L students may apply to be in the CJC, even those who have already been selected to participate in a clinic for the upcoming year.

Please note that the CJC is a year-long clinic. Students participating in the Clinic must enroll for both fall and spring semesters. Students will earn 4 credit hours each semester.

If you are interested in being considered for the CJC, you must complete the online application no later than 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20.
