Scout Calvert, chair, Research Partnerships (associate professor), and Andrew Jewell, chair, Digital Strategies and co-director, Center for Digital Research in the Humanities (professor), both of University Libraries, have been chosen as fellows in the 2025 cohort of the Association of Research Libraries Intensive Learning Program (ARL ILP).
Both Calvert and Jewell are eager to join 18 other academic library leaders from institutions across the United States in exploring operational aspects of senior-leader portfolios as well as responsibilities related to managing those portfolios.

“I’m very excited to have this learning experience with peers from other academic libraries. Though I learn in a variety of ways, the most powerful mode for me is engagement with other people and their perspectives. The cohort model of the Intensive Learning Program is one of its greatest appeals, as I learn best when that learning happens relationally and reciprocally,” Andrew Jewell said.

Calvert is looking forward to learning with this cohort and helping to make UNL Libraries a leaderful organization.
“I want to be part of developing and encouraging the next generation of academic library leaders, whether that is lateral, collective leadership or in positions that require leading and managing," said Scout Calvert.

The ILP strengthens strategic thinking and decision-making skills to ensure effective leadership of research libraries in a time of rapid, continuous change. Participants experience opportunities to enhance leadership qualities—including integrity, compassion, and collegiality—as they develop their leadership skills. ILP Fellows engage in a variety of experiences during the program, including: attending the Learning Summit and ARL Association Meeting, participating in an ARL library site visit, joining monthly educational sessions, and completing self-assessments and career-coaching sessions.
