Operating a snow plow with a wing challenges visibility on the right side increasing the risk of hitting objects including vehicles. For just $20, Delaware DOT personnel in the North Area District 11 improved visibility for snow plow operators with wings on their plows.
The Build a Better Mousetrap-winning innovation, was low in cost and simple to execute by building a bracket to hold a mirror strategically on the plow. The originators have modified their initial design to reduce the effect of plow vibration and adapt to different models of equipment. See the entry video on YouTube.
Build a Better Mousetrap is an annual competition for transportation agencies to share innovations. Learn more about the program nationally through FHWA's web site. Nebraska LTAP will accept entries through early summer.
