The 13th TRB International Conference on Low Volume Roads will provide a global forum to examine new technologies and new techniques in the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and administration of low-volume roads. Panelists will explore case studies and practical solutions to common problems related to all aspects of low-volume roads. The TRB International Low Volume Roads Conference will focus on issues that impact all aspects of life throughout the world, including the first and last mile of the roads where trips by people, produce, and resources start and end.
The TRB International Low Volume Roads Conference has been held every four years since 1975. In 2023, it will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (US), returning to this centrally and easily accessible state which was the host for the 2nd International Low Volume Roads Conference in 1979.
The conference in Cedar Rapids will be a vibrant combination of workshops, general and technical sessions, exhibit space, and technical field trip(s). It will build upon the success of previous conferences, pulling in experts, researchers and practitioners from across the US as well as from many countries around the world. Enhancing the robust and diverse international participation, this 2023 conference will draw on the strong regional interest in the subject of low volume roads, Iowa’s international connections, and a strong long-standing state-based locally-driven roadway and bridge research environment. Iowa’s Highway Research Board was established in 1949 and continues to fund projects that impact low volume roads throughout Iowa and the United States.
Attendance at the conference typically includes 200 to 300 practitioners and researchers from more than 20 countries worldwide. Attendees represent federal, state, and local public governmental agencies; private contractors and consultants; universities and colleges; and non-governmental organizations.
NDOT is making Workforce Development Funds available for local public agency employees to pay the registration fees for this event. Contact Phyllis if you are interested in attending.
