I wanted to make you aware of some upcoming opportunities for your heavy equipment operators that your agency should take advantage of. Our annual APWA/LTAP Equipment Roadeo and Winter Maintenance Workshop is scheduled for June 24-25 at Central Community College in Hastings. It will be a great learning opportunity regarding winter operations coupled with many highly beneficial equipment operation competitions. Lodging will be provided for folks who travel further than 60 miles for this two-day event. Attendees will have access to numerous equipment simulators and live equipment demonstrations between events and will get a good dose of education about winter maintenance topics.
I also would like you to think about hands-on heavy equipment training that will be available in September/October. We will have a professional equipment trainer at four locations for a total of eight, 2½ day sessions. We should be able to train 80 operators this year. More information will follow in our newsletter once details are finalized. Stay tuned for that and make sure to get your people signed up as soon as registration is available.
Another good opportunity happens in October at the Operation Safety Summit in Lancaster County. More information will be out in the next couple of months for that event, which is all about equipment safety. That’s a great certificate to add to your operators’ personnel files.
