Special Funding Opportunity for Mathematics Students to Attend the SACNAS Virtual Conference on National Diversity in STEM (October 19-24, 2020)

With funding from the National Science Foundation, the Mathematical Sciences Institutes Diversity Initiative (MSIDI) was developed as a collaboration among the mathematical sciences institutes to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in the mathematical sciences, including women, underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities.

MSIDI is pleased to announce the availability of registration funding for mathematics students and early career mathematicians interested in attending the (virtual) SACNAS National Diversity in STEM conference. This funding is intended to encourage minority groups to attend SACNAS, explore careers in the mathematical sciences, and build research and mentoring networks.

ELIGIBILITY: Registration funding is available for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent PhDs. MSIDI will reimburse the registration fee with proof of payment and attendance.

NOTE: No reference letter is required (nor will any letters be accepted).

APPLICATION DEADLINE: The deadline to apply for SACNAS registration funding is Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

REQUIRED:

1. MSIDI needs to collect your ORCID ID as REQUIRED by the National Science Foundation (NSF), its primary funder. Only those participants who furnish their ID to MSIDI can be supported with NSF funds. ORCID is an independent non-profit organization that provides a persistent identifier – an ORCID ID – that distinguishes you from other researchers and a mechanism for linking your research outputs and activities to your ID. ORCID is integrated into many systems used by publishers, funders, institutions, and other research-related services. Learn more and create an ORCID ID account at orcid.org.

2. Funding recipients must submit proof of registration payment upon request.

3. Funding recipients must submit a screenshot showing participation in a scheduled SACNAS activity upon request.

Please contact chris@msri.org if paying for SACNAS registration up-front poses a hardship.
