Fall 2020 Pi Mu Epsilon Applications

Pi Mu Epsilon is an honorary mathematics society that invites students to become members regardless of major. Pi Mu Epsilon is a non-secret organization whose purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions. The Nebraska Alpha Chapter, founded in 1928, inducts new members each fall.

Applications for Fall 2020 are now open. The application deadline is Friday, October 2, 2020, and the application form can be found here. To apply, please complete the application form and submit the form and membership fee to Professor Tri Lai by placing it in his Math Department mailbox (#80). Electronic applications can be emailed directly to Doug Pellatz (dpellatz@unl.edu) or Professor Lai (tlai3@unl.edu), but the membership fee still needs to be placed in Professor Lai's mailbox.

Membership Requirements

In order to qualify for membership, you must have:

- a 3.0 GPA overall,
- a 3.5 GPA in all math courses, and
- completed at least two semesters of calculus and at least two more classes at or above the level of calculus (e.g., Math 106, 107, 208 and one of 221 or 314).

To become a member, you must meet the qualifications, pay the lifetime membership fee of $30 and attend the Initiation Ceremony (tentatively) on Friday, October 30, 2020, at 4:00 - 5:00pm. At the initiation ceremony, you will receive a membership certificate.
