Sharing a Square Pizza

The UNL Math Club invites you to a presentation by Professor Jack Jeffries entitled “Sharing a Square Pizza” on Thursday, October 1st at 4:00 pm.

Abstract of Professor Jeffries presentation: We might not have had this problem recently, but here's a problem from more normal times. Pizza, as we all know, should be eaten in triangular slices. Given a square pizza, is there a way to cut it into triangular slices of equal size? If we want two, four, or six slices, you'll succeed. If we want three, five, or seven slices, we'll at least struggle. In fact, it's impossible to cut a square into an odd number of triangles of equal area. Even more fun than this fact is the surprising set of tools we'll use to see it. Only a basic familiarity with pizza is assumed as background.
