Starting the college journey can be intimidating for many, but starting that journey in another country comes with its own set of challenges. Students interested in helping new international students transition to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are invited to apply for the International Welcome Team by Mar. 17 at 11:59 p.m.

Since 2015, the International Welcome Team has helped new undergraduate international students acclimate to the university, introduced them to the Lincoln community and better understand American culture. This year, the position has expanded to joint management by New Student Enrollment, University Housing and the International Student and Scholar Office for a more seamless student experience. Team members will be hired for the entire academic year to guide new students through arrival and orientation, help them check into their residence hall and organize cultural and social events throughout the year.

What’s the role?

  • Be a friendly face and resource at the Lincoln airport when new international students arrive
  • Be a leader during International Welcome Week and Orientation by facilitating small-group activities and troubleshooting students' issues
  • Help students check in and get connected within the University Housing residence halls
  • Plan and execute events for international students during the semester

Who can apply?
All fully-admitted undergraduate students – international and domestic – can apply for the Welcome Team. Strong candidates have previous experience in mentoring, leadership and working with different cultural groups as well as a desire to help international students.
