Mountain School Seeking Math Teacher for August 2022!
The Mountain School is currently accepting applications for a Math Teacher to begin August 2022. They are interviewing on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
The Mountain School is a semester-long, residential academic program for high school juniors set on four hundred acres in central Vermont. Each fall and spring semester, forty-five students from across the country join our campus where they take academic classes, participate in our farm and outdoor programs, and build a diverse and interdependent community.
While the Mountain School has traditionally served a socioeconomically advantaged demographic, we have been radically redesigning our institutional practices and curriculum to cultivate an educationally just, inclusive program that is fluid and responsive. Our recruitment strategies in hiring and admissions are driven by this commitment, including offering tuition support through need-based scholarships and broadening our hiring networks.
We are pleased to invite applications for a teacher of mathematics beginning in August 2022. The teacher will be responsible for two or three sections of math with topics ranging from Algebra 2 to BC Calculus. Class sizes range from 3 to 16 students and each section meets three times per week.
Full-time positions include other duties, such as working on the farm and in the woods, participating in our outdoor education program, advising students, parenting a dorm in the evenings, co-leading an affinity group, and working with students on weekends.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s or advanced degree (or equivalent professional experience or expertise)
● Experience teaching, tutoring, and/or mentoring students in math
● Commitment to developing pedagogy
● Experience working with a diverse community of students in a predominantly white educational environment
● Demonstrated commitment to educational and social justice
● Readiness to live and work in rural Vermont
Compensation starts at $42,000 and is commensurate with experience. Full-time positions include generous medical and retirement benefits. On-campus housing may be available, and all faculty are welcome to enjoy chef-prepared, farm-fresh meals in our dining hall seven days a week.
The Mountain School encourages candidates who would add to the socioeconomic, cultural, and gender diversity of the school community to apply. The Mountain School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
