Hello Math Majors,
I hope that this message finds you doing well as Priority Registration for the Spring 2023 semester is wrapping up. I am still available for meetings and Zoom drop-ins if you have any questions about classes for the Spring 2023 semester and the January Pre-Session. I would also be glad to help with any holds that you have your registration for the Spring 2023 semester.
This Friday, November 11th marks the 75% or three-quarter point of the Fall 2022 semester. Yes, it is true that we only have a little more than 25% or a quarter of the Fall 2022 semester left, and this final quarter will go very quickly with the Thanksgiving Holiday break in the middle of it. I know that feeling of wanting a semester to end, and I want to encourage you to keep up the hard work so you can finish strong. Remember, you still have many resources available help you as the semester comes to close, so please reach out to or visit those resources as you finish your current classes.
This Friday, November 11th is also the deadline to withdraw from a Fall 2022 semester course. Missing the withdrawal deadline on November 11th will likely mean carrying a course grade through to the start of the Spring 2023 semester. There are many situations where a course withdrawal would be appropriate, and there are a few situation where withdrawing from a course could cause problems. For example, withdrawing from a course that you know you are going to fail is a good decision, or withdrawing from a major or minor course that you aren't going to achieve a C or better grade in that is hurting your performance in other courses can be a good decision. I would be happy to discuss with you the pros and cons of withdrawing from a course at this point of the Fall 2022 semester. Academically speaking, dropping a course is the same thing as withdrawing from a course at this point of the fall semester. The Office of the University Registrar has instructions for dropping a course available at https://registrar.unl.edu/student/registration/tutorials/#drop.
Financially speaking, withdrawing from a course can jeopardize your eligibility for future financial aid and/or scholarships. I am not an expert about financial aid and scholarships, and for the most part, withdrawing from one course over your entire undergraduate career will not be a problem. The staff and specialists in the Husker Hub help students with questions about scholarships and financial aid, billing and student accounts, and class registration. The Husker Hub is located in 102 Canfield Administration Building (south end, east doors of the building), and they are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for in-person walk-in meetings. They can be reached at 402-472-2030, and they take virtual walk-in meetings every weekday from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm with check-in starting at https://huskerhub-checkin.unl.edu/. You can also schedule an appointment with them every weekday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at https://huskerhub.unl.edu/husker-hub-appointment-request. I would encourage any student to visit the Husker Hub prior to withdrawing from a Fall 2022 semester course.
Best wishes, Doug
