GEOL 442/842: Environmental Geophysics

Dr. Irina Filina will be teaching GEOL 442/842: Environmental Geophysics at 9:30-10:20 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in 214 Bessey Hall during the Spring 2023 semester.

This course will outline the basics of seismic, ground-penetrating radar and potential fields for near-surface applications. These methodologies have a wide range of applications spanning from environmental and hydrogeological to engineering and archeological studies. The class will take advantage of the geophysical instrumentation from the UNL Geophysics lab (including the newly purchased seismic spread), so students will get hands-on field experience and practice in data processing and basic interpretation.

Prerequisites for GEOL 442/842 are listed as MATH 107: Calculus II; PHYS 211: General Physics I; GEOL 101: Dynamic Earth or GEOL 106: Environmental Geology; or equivalent/permission.
