MNGT 411: Philanthropy and Leadership for Fall 2025

You are encouraged to enroll in MNGT 411: Philanthropy and Leadership for Fall 2025!

This upper-level elective experiential learning course will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:00 am - 12:15 pm in Hawks Hall, and will afford you the unique opportunity to learn about philanthropy and the Lincoln community while gaining valuable professional skills. There are no prerequisites other than being a junior or senior student at UNL. All majors are welcome.

Our semester project is a grant process in which our class allocates $10,000 in funding to two local nonprofits. Nonprofits play an important role across the country, as they work to address social issues, gaps in services, and improve our communities. You will have a voice in determining the best recipients of donor funds that will directly benefit members of the Lincoln community.

Across the semester, you’ll gain knowledge about the nonprofit sector through guest speakers, online research, interviews, site visits, and volunteer projects. Additionally, you’ll network with individuals across the community, manage a multi-faceted project, refine your communication skills, and demonstrate leadership as you collaborate on a class effort that goes beyond a grade to make a meaningful difference. These are transferable skills you can take with you to any professional role.

Learn more about the class at our website (which includes links to our student-managed social media platforms). If you wish to learn more and obtain a permission code to enroll, visit the MNGT 411 Consent Form. This form is not an application. Instead, it helps you understand what you’ll do in and expect from the course. After submitting the form, you will be automatically emailed a permission code that you can use to enroll in MyRED.
