UNL Meteorology-Climatology
UNL Meteorology-Climatology

Hello Meteorology-Climatology Majors,

I hope that the fourth week of the semester has started well for you. I expect that the first midterm exams are going to be taking place and first papers are going to be due over the next couple of weeks. Remember to use the resources available for your courses rather than just going it alone!

This week, we will have an Instructional Continuity Day on Friday, September 20th due to the disruption caused by the Friday night football game against Illinois. Instructional Continuity Days can happen for many reasons (like poor winter weather), but it is unusual them to happen due to a football game (or a volleyball game like last fall). On an Instructional Continuity Day, your instructors will have a plan laid out for how your classes that would have meet in-person will run. This plan should be included on the course syllabus, and I expect each of your in-person course instructors will have a slightly different plan for the day. Thus, you need to check the syllabus for course to see what your instructor's expectations are (online, synchronous via Zoom; online, asynchronous; other) on Friday, September 20th. If you have questions about the expectations, you need to contact your course instructor as soon as possible.

During an Instructional Continuity Day, the majority of UNL offices and buildings will be closed and locked, but the normal services will be available online. For example, I will not be in my office on Friday, September 20th, and Avery Hall will be locked. However, I will continue to take my normal Zoom drop-in meetings on Friday morning, and I will have Zoom appointments available during my normal hours for the rest of the day. If we would have another unexpected Instructional Continuity Day, you would connect with me in a similar way, and I would work to shift in-person appointments to Zoom appointments.

This week, the University will host a series of Career + Internships Fairs on Today, Tomorrow, and Thursday. The goal of these events is to introduce you to companies and organizations that could have job and internship opportunities for you now or in the future. The people attending these events will explain what their company or organization does and why you should be interested in working with them. If they have job and internship opportunities available now, for the spring, or for next summer, they will be promoting them as well.

There are many companies and organizations that are going to be interested in hiring Meteorology-Climatology majors, so there could be opportunities at all the remaining days of Career + Internship Fairs. Thus, I would encourage you to attend as many of the fairs at you have time for, but I can certainly understand wanting to prioritize your attendance based on your interests. Here is some additional information about the focus of each Career + Internship Fair Day:

University Career + Internship Fairs - Day 2

Please consider meeting them soon or after the Career + Internship Fairs to help with all of your career development needs! I would also be glad to help if you have questions.
