The Dream Lives On Speech Competition
The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center is proud to announce "The Dream Lives On: MLK Legacy Speech Competition," an inspiring event designed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and empower the next generation of leaders. This competition provides a platform for UNL students to express their ideas, sharpen their public speaking skills, and engage in meaningful discussions on topics that shape our world. The competition will take place on February 25, 2025, 5:00-7:00 pm, at the Swanson Auditorium (Nebraska Union Building).
A little bit more about the competition. Dr. King’s legacy is built on the power of words to inspire change, unite communities, and spark action. This competition is not just about speaking—it’s about leadership, critical thinking, and the courage to stand up for what matters. Whether participants choose to reflect on historical lessons, advocate for a cause, or share a personal
journey, this event is an opportunity to:
• Enhance leadership potential by confidently articulating ideas.
• Strengthen a sense of belonging by sharing perspectives in a welcoming space.
• Develop critical thinking skills by crafting compelling messages.
• Build community connections by engaging in meaningful conversations.
The competition will culminate in a networking event, offering an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with professionals who share our dedication to these values. Students can apply by completing the form at this link: https://go.unl.edu/dreamliveson.
The application deadline is February 17, 2025, and you can find an application guide here.
