Career Development - How to Ask for a Reference or Recommendation
Sometimes the most challenging part of obtaining a job or experience is making sure you have a credible reference. CASNR Peer Career Coach Abby Misfeldt explains how to ask for a reference or recommendation. Here is a sneak peek video.
Resume Labs will begin again next semester. We enjoyed meeting and helping everyone this semester! As always if you have any questions, please contact Julie Obermeyer, jobermyer@unl.edu, or Marybeth Helmink, mbhelmink@unl.edu.

Internship Alternative Options
Still seeking a summer experience? What alternative options are available and/or suggested?
● Secure a different Internship – find a remote experience less related to your program but that still has outcomes that connect to the spirit of the unit requirements.
● Micro-internship(s) – consider a short-term, professional experience that will typically last just a few weeks for the duration of a single project.
● Professional development Course – look for these course opportunities that may be offered by individual departments as electives.
● Free elective alternative in your department – talk with your advisor about alternative elective courses that can serve as a replacement for the internship credit.
● Networking and workshop attendance – attend multiple remote events and workshops related to career development skills and provide reflective responses.
● Independent study – meet with a potential faculty/staff advisor or internship coordinator in your unit to develop a customized plan specific for you.
● Research – meet with potential faculty in your department to work out a research project.
● Check out https://www.agcareers.com, Indeed Jobs, or other search engine and look for remote summer employment.
Above all, be careful on the job search and make sure it is a reputable option. There have been warnings of job scammers offering ‘work from home options,’ so play it safe and check the company out on LinkedIn and by asking around!
