Welcome to the Fall 2024 Semester at the UNL! We are excited for each of you to join us for various Microbiology Program events that we host throughout the semester! We also of course encourage you to get involved with the Microbiology Club! All of these events will be shared in the Micro Zone so DO check every week for updates and information. We are especially excited to continue professional development opportunities through the MARVEL workshop to complement experiential learning opportunities in which you may engage throughout your time here at UNL. Remember you do not have to be a freshman to participate this is designed for students at any stage of your education as themes change. This year join us to explore "Teamwork in Science" on October 4 (Watch Micro Zone for details). For students interested in engaging in experiential learning don't hesitate to reach out to your advisor or Dr. Brandi Sigmon, Academic Success Coordinator. We are here to support you whether it is helping you find a research laboratory or navigating challenges in which you have encountered at the UNL, do reach out to us. You can contact us through the information denoted below (https://microbiology.unl.edu/ugcontact) or drop simply drop in and say in our office at E249 Beadle Center. We are looking forward to an exciting Fall semester and year! Go Big Red!

Hello everyone!!! I am so excited to be stepping in as president of the Microbiology Club this year. The Microbiology club aims to enrich and excite students about the microbiology field. One of the main ways we achieve this goal is through our bi-weekly meetings that can include anything between researchers talking about their work to our annual agar art event where we make amazing artwork with various bacteria. Members are welcome to suggest other events throughout the semester to make the club a more engaging place that will make students more involved. One of my goals for the year is to try and make the club reach out to different communities through tailored events or more public outreach to get the general community more excited about science. This club is full of likeminded people that are happy to help with curriculars or future planning. Again, I am so excited to be this year’s president and I can’t wait to see you all around. Feel free to contact me any time. - Logan Hake, President
