The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host Husker Cancer Support 2025, a campuswide event aimed at raising awareness, honoring survivors, and supporting those affected by the disease. The event is 3 to 5 p.m. April 18 in the Prairie Suite of the Nebraska East Union.
The theme, “Strength in Every Story: Honoring, Supporting, Inspiring,” highlights the power of shared experiences and the resilience within the university community.
The program will include guest speakers, storytelling sessions, and a group activity designed to promote solidarity and hope. A recognition ceremony will also honor individuals and groups from UNL who have made significant contributions to cancer awareness, support and advocacy over the past year.
The event is organized by Trey Lamkins, a senior majoring in plant and landscape systems. Lamkins was inspired to create the event following the death of his mother from stage four lung cancer in August 2023.
“My mother taught me to lead with empathy and to stand up for the underdog,” Lamkins said. “This event is my way of honoring her legacy and offering others a space to feel seen, supported, and uplifted.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Reshell Ray at rray1@unl.edu or Trey Lamkins at tlamkins3@unl.edu.
