The University of Iowa Department of Microbiology and Immunology invites applications to its long-running, NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in Microbiology at the Host-Pathogen Interface. This 10-week summer program (May 25–July 31) places students in bacteriology, immunology, parasitology, or virology labs to complete intensive, independent research projects under the guidance of expert mentors.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Be enrolled at a community college, college, or university.
Plan to return for at least one semester of undergraduate study after summer 2026.
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder).
This program is designed to provide support and opportunities that help students pursue advanced degrees in microbiology. No prior research experience is required—we encourage all eligible students with an interest in microbiology to apply.
