What do I take next?

102 students: Take 201, followed by 202, or take 210. We recommend that majors, minors, and those who want rapid progress take the 210 block, counting as 201 and 202, allowing them to fulfill the language requirement in one semester.

201 students: Take 202.

202 & 210 students: Take 203 or 204; or, for those who want to make rapid progress, take 203 and 204 in the same semester (recommended for majors and minors).

203 students: Take 204, if you haven’t already.

204 students: Take 203, if you haven’t already, or take any 300 level course. Students often take 303 or 304 as their first course, but you’re eligible for any course at this level. Note that you do not have to have taken 301 to take 302; nor do you have to have taken 303 to take 304, although it is advisable. 301 and 303 are taught in the fall, 302 and 304 in the spring. Phonetics (319) would also be an excellent place to begin the 300 level.

300-level students: Once you’ve finished both 301 and 302, you’re eligible for 400-level literature courses; therefore, either go on to the 400 level or continue with your 300-level requirements.
