Who are members of MTEP teams? Part 1

MTEP team members comprise four general categories: university, K–12, state department, and community college personnel.

The MTEP 2.0 Research Hub compiled the membership of each of the 18 MTEP teams from team reports submitted in Summer 2023. Figure 1 shows the composition of each team across four broad categories: university personnel, K–12 personnel, state department members, and community college personnel. When you look at this graphic, what do you notice about team membership? What do you wonder?

Now consider Figure 2, in which the Research Hub has separated out the various roles that members in the university personnel group serve on their campuses. University faculty who identify as mathematics educators may be employed in a college or department of education or in a mathematics department within a college of sciences or in a department of STEM education. The category of other university faculty includes a wide range of roles such as edTPA coordinators, field placement coordinators, recruitment specialists, master teachers, and directors of centers whose work relates to the preparation of teachers.

As you look at the composition of the university faculty on each team, what do you notice? What do you wonder? Are you connecting with the faculty on your campuses who should be involved in MTEP work? Are there perhaps some additional members that might enrich your discussions and help push your initiatives forward?

Next month, the MTEP 2.0 Research Hub will share Part 2 of this article by breaking down the K–12 personnel roles on MTEP teams.
