This program (A Recital of New Art Song Settings of Poetry of Walt Whitman) is in celebration of the bicentennial of the great American poet Walt Whitman’s birth and will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. UNK faculty members Andrew White, baritone, and Nathan Buckner, pianist, will present a recital of newly composed art songs based entirely on texts of Walt Whitman. This collection of Whitman settings represents years of collaboration with living composers. Scholars associated with UNL’s Whitman Archive, Kevin McMullen and Brett Barney, have assisted with program notes and introductory remarks, providing an inter-campus collaboration.
Nathan Buckner currently serves as Professor of Piano for UNK. He has appeared throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Asia, and Latin-America as a soloist and chamber musician.
Andrew R. White, BM, MM, AD, DMA, teaches private voice, as well as classes in diction and vocal literature at the University of Nebraska at Kearney at the rank of professor.
Free and open to the public.
