Glenn Korff School of Music awards announced at annual Honors Convocation

The Glenn Korff School of Music hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Thursday afternoon, April 27 in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

The awards included:

The Glenn Korff Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Artist/Scholar Awards are intended to recognize and reward excellence in performance and/or scholarship in the Glenn Korff School of Music. The winners of these prestigious awards are – Undergraduate: Kennedy Rolfes; Graduate: Andrew Janak.

SAI Collegiate Honor Award (Presented to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to her chapter and school and demonstrated outstanding musicianship, scholarship, and service to the local chapter) – Lauren Shepherd.

Sandfort Scholarship Award (Given in honor of Edith Kerr Sandfort, is a one-time award given to a music education applicant who has completed the sophomore field experience. Applicants’ portfolios containing a statement by the applicant and recommendations from the University Supervisor and the cooperating teacher are reviewed by the Music Education faculty and a winner is selected who, in the faculty’s judgment, possesses outstanding teaching potential) – Chauncey Kleveland.

Vreeland Awards in Music (The Vreeland Awards have been made possible by the bequest of the late Francis William Vreeland, an artist and native Nebraskan. The bequest provides for the establishment of awards to be given to students in music, dance, art, and theater who have shown exceptional creative ability during the past academic year.) -- undergraduate award in music – Eun-Jin Chung; graduate award in music – Jacob Lee.

The Tous Scholarships (For music majors who play a leadership role in the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Dalton Stout, Nicole Shively, Chauncey Kleveland.

The Hascall Scholarships (To a non-music major for outstanding contributions to the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Megan Pecha and Michael Sieffert.

The Giles Scholarship (For an outstanding music education major in the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Chris Goulet.

The Hoyt Marching Band Scholarship (For outstanding tuba players in the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Natalie Kent, Ethan Millington, Michael Wadsworth

The Tony J. Kirkpatrick Memorial Scholarship (For a deserving percussionist involved in the athletic bands -- Cornhusker Marching Band and/or Big Red Express -- who is an alumnus of Lincoln East High School) – Kurt Ameku

The Don and Carole Burt Vocal Excellence Scholarship (Awarded to a current student who will be a senior voice major next year. The recipient is selected by the UNL voice faculty and must be a student leader in good academic standing who has demonstrated excellent vocal ability --either classical, musical theater, or both -- and is an active participant in Glenn Korff School of Music activities and productions) – Jeannie Hageman.

Marvella W. Burmester Scholarships (Awarded to current students who are Nebraska residents majoring in vocal music) – Krista Benesch and Ryan Savage.

Leesa Crnogorac Award (Awarded to a graduate of a Nebraska High School who is majoring in vocal music) – Matthew Carter.

Friends of Opera James and Rhonda Seacrest Award (awarded to a deserving graduate student in voice) -- Crystal Dunning.

Anne and William L. Porter Award for Creativity in Dance (Given annually to the dance major who has demonstrated the highest level of achievement and excellence) – Alexis Spurgin.

Ruth Diamond Levinson Dance Award winners (Honors outstanding dance majors) – Madeline Thelen and Lauren Kraemer.

F. Pace Woods Award (Awarded to either a graduate or an undergraduate student in music or dance who is a returning full time student, has a minimum GPA of 3.5, and has demonstrated academic and creative/scholarly excellence) – Emily Freeman.

Presser Scholarship Award (A very prestigious award given to an undergraduate student in the Glenn Korff School of Music. Each year, the Presser Foundation makes a scholarship grant to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be given to an outstanding music major at or after, the end of his or her junior year. The student, selected by a vote of the Glenn Korff School of Music faculty, is to be designated as our “Presser Scholar.” It is intended to recognize outstanding and meritorious achievement in music.) – Cambria Butcher

Distinguished Scholars and Graduating Students were also honored at the event.
