I am pleased to announce that Dr. Wendy Smith has agreed to serve as the next Director of the Center for Science, Math and Computer Education. Wendy is a highly accomplished scholar and research leader in the fields of mathematics and STEM education. She has an excellent record of externally funded research and is a highly collaborative scholar who understands the importance of building strong partnerships at UNL and across the state to improve the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at both the PK-12 and collegiate level. Wendy brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the role of CSMCE director and has a compelling vision dedicated to building upon the outstanding record of success of the center and making education more equitable for all students. Based on the helpful feedback we received from the director appointment survey (with 24 participants), Wendy has very strong support among CSMCE stakeholders. Please join me in congratulating Wendy on her appointment as the Director of the Center for Science, Math and Computer Education. She will begin serving in this role on August 15, 2022.
Additionally, I want to extend my thanks and deep appreciation to Dr. Jim Lewis for his visionary leadership of the CSMCE. After more than 20 years of distinguished and impactful leadership as the director of the CSMCE, we are immensely grateful for Jim’s dedicated service to the CSMCE and his many notable contributions in CAS, across numerous programs and colleges at UNL, and in the PK-12 education community throughout the State of Nebraska.
