Save the date! Nebraska EPSCoR and the Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will sponsor the 25th Women in Science Conference on April 5-6, 2024, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Willa Cather Dining Complex and Beadle Center.
We encourage science teachers to bring up to four students from a high school to attend. Registration will open in late January or early February. See the website, https://scimath.unl.edu/women-in-science, for more information and the tentative schedule. Keynote speakers will be Drs. Judy Wu-Smart from the UNL Department of Entomology and Georgia Jones from Nebraska Extension and Food Science and Technology.
This conference encourages students to pursue their interests in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology by introducing them to role models of successful women in a variety of fields. Students will hear women scientists speak about their careers and their lives outside of work. Students will participate in workshops to give them opportunities to learn more about science-related areas. Our goals are to expand understanding of the kinds of work scientists do and to dispel some myths surrounding science careers for women. Graduate and undergraduate students will help students learn more about college life and science majors.
Each school may bring up to four students to the conference, and a school sponsor must accompany them. Lodging (including breakfast), a Friday night banquet, lunch on Saturday, and materials for the conference will be provided. Transportation and any other miscellaneous expenses are the responsibility of the participants. Students and their sponsor will be housed at the Embassy Suites with four students or two sponsors assigned per room. Schools must be at least 30 miles away from Lincoln in order to qualify for lodging.
After registration closes, we will finalize reservations and provide you with additional information. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 402-472-9312, or Mike Bergland-Riese at riese@unl.edu. Space is limited so registrations submitted early are important to guarantee you can participate. We look forward to hosting students from your school in 2024!
