The longest running community science project around turns 125 this year. Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count takes place all across the country between Dec. 14 and Jan. 5 every year. The count is led by volunteer community scientists of all ages to count the birds in their local areas and check on bird populations and health. This experience offers a great way to learn about conducting scientific surveys and bird identification. Nebraska has a long history of over 85 years participating and in 2024, has 15 circles across the state to participate in over the holiday break.
