The Lead STEM With Confidence Workshop will take place from 6:15-8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29 CST, at the Schuyler Community Schools District Office in Schuyler, Nebraska. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. with dinner served. Register by Jan. 22 to secure your spot.
 
This two-hour workshop is designed to build confidence in leading afterschool STEM learning experiences for both new and experienced staff. The hands-on workshop features STEM activities you can use right away and focuses on developing teaching skills and strategies. All out-of-school time professionals are invited to attend, from part-time staff to site directors and educators. Participants will:

  • Learn how to encourage active STEM learning and plan strategies you can use to keep children engaged in all the activities you lead.
  • Learn how purposeful questions support learning and thinking, and practice developing purposeful questions you can use.
  • Experience hands-on activities designing paper circuits and engineering marble rollercoasters.
  • Be prepared to apply new skills and strategies when leading STEM activities afterschool.

Workshop objectives
  • Participants will be prepared to use Active STEM Learning strategies that keeps children engaged in learning.
  • Participants will learn and apply strategies for Asking Purposeful Questions that support learning.
  • Participants will leave the training with concrete ideas for applying what they have learned and resources to continue developing their STEM teaching skills.
