More than 1,600 people attended the 10th annual "Dinosaurs and Disasters" family fun day hosted by the University of Nebraska State Museum and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences on Feb. 8 at Morrill Hall.
UNL scientists, graduate and undergraduate students provided activities and demonstrations to help museum visitors better understand planet Earth by exploring how natural disasters and extreme weather events occur. Twenty-five interactive stations were set up throughout the museum with something for children of all ages. There were a wide range of activities including: dinosaur extinction games, volcanic eruption demonstrations, videotaping weather reports using a green screen, building mountain belts out of colored sugar, interacting with a flood table, and tornado simulations.
Participants also had the opportunity to Skype with a ship in the south China Sea at the Drilling Station. All five showings of “Dinosaurs at Dusk” in the Mueller Planetarium were sold out.
