Eight members of UNL's Geography Student Organization ended the academic year in a colorful way — literally — by painting a playground map of the United States for Scribner-Snyder Community Schools.
The map was painted onto the school's playground. The students volunteered both time and GSO/Gamma Theta Upsilon financial resources for the event.
"(It's) one of the many fantastic things that some of our geography students have been up to lately," said Becky Buller, geography lecturer and GSO adviser.
The project is part of an effort by the student group to spread geography awareness to children. The group has also painted U.S. maps at Prescott and Norwood elementary schools in Lincoln.
Students who helped create the map for Scribner-Snyder are: Brooke Bolin, David Grosso, Glenn Humphress, Marc Marean, Tracy Matteson, Kevin McMillan, Katelyn Pietz and Kristin Sorensen.
